This post is another in our series highlighting the work of the creators who help and inspire us here at Northdown Brewery. This time it is Andrew Hudson of Hemetic Sign Company.
Here is Andrew to tell us about his work:
Originally from Coventry, in 2016 I moved to Margate where I hand-paint shopfront lettering for the town’s many incredible small independent businesses. I also do reverse-gilding on glass – shop windows, house numbers on fanlights, stuff like that – as well as decorative commission pieces. After working out of the spare room in my flat for the last four years, I’m now in the process of setting up my own high-street sign studio.
Part of the reason I was attracted to signwriting in the first place was my love of pubs and beer, so having been in the creative wilderness, working office jobs for 15 years after finishing art school, to crack open a can with my artwork on was a huge moment for me… it felt like a massive achievement. My practice is all about a kind of “contemporary heritage”, and I think the can design for NorthDown really exemplifies that feeling – I love it.
